The Starlighters are not $5 each. You do have to buy a dozen, but the price each works out to about $1.35 each. A student will have no trouble using up a dozen, but they could also sell the extras to classmates.

Look for bible highlighters. Here's a company in Australia that has 25 orange Staedtler highlighter pencils for AU$2.95 each (plus shipping -- about 3 weeks for delivery to the US): http://orders.koorong.com.au/search/details.jhtml?code=4007817110102

Here's a four-pencil kit for $12.95: http://www.allbibles.com/items.asp?Cc=BSA&Bc=

Here's an eight color bible highlighter pencil (it's not woodcased, which is why I didn't list it the first time) for $24: http://www.booksofthebible.com/p3640.html

They were almost $5.00.

I ordered the Forest Choice colored pencils, just for my own writing/doodling. I like the way they look, and I love the regular graphite ones, plus they're economical.

I sound like a commercial. :)

What's a good wood-cased pencil for yellow or orange highlighting? I've tried some of the Prismacolor yellows and oranges, but they are a bit too thin and require a little too much English, compared with the effortless glide of an ink-based hiliter. The Twistable sounds like it could be it, but ouch, the plastic...
