You do have to buy a dozen, but the price each works out to about $1.35 each. A student will have no trouble using up a dozen, but they could also sell the extras to classmates. I ordered the Forest Choice colored pencils, just for my own writing/doodling. I like the way they look, and I love the regular graphite ones, plus they're economical. I've tried some of the Prismacolor yellows and oranges, but they are a bit too thin and require a little too much English, compared with the effortless glide of an ink-based hiliter.
