pencil philosophy: wooden wisdom, product reviews & ephemera, etc.
Off to the National Portrait Gallery today with my oldest child. We’re prepared.
Hi, I like seeing what you bring with you on your museum trips. Do you ever check out what they are selling in the gift shops? I recently picked up an interesting pencil at the American Art Museum/National Portrait Gallery near my office. Since it’s close by, I stop in occasionally. I also remember going there on field trips for school. On my last visit, I went to the gift shop to pick up some Cherry Blossom Festival postcards, and by the cash register they had this pencil that had a paint brush on one end and the pencil on the other. It had a beautiful black finish, and the pencil part reminded me of a Caran d’Ache Swiss Wood. The paint brush part had really soft bristles. For $5, I couldn’t pass it up. It also nicely echoed the duel nature of the museum since it’s two housed in one building with American Art Museum printed on the pencil end and National Portrait Gallery printed on the brush end. It makes a great, and functional souvenir. Thanks.
